Next Meeting

The next meeting will be on Tuesday, June 10th at the County Education building, 2nd floor, on Peckham and Pamela. The Board meets at 7:00pm and the General meeting commences at 7:30. Guests are always welcome.

The Show

It's over and it was a BIG success. The Fuji Park site was a perfect venue for the show and the weather was very cooperative.

A couple of "dust devils" on Saturday afternoon caused a few problems, but nothing serious. Fuji Park is being renovated, and we were the first dog show to be held on the grounds since the renovation project was started. IT IS BEAUTIFUL!

There are many thanks that must be expressed. Sig Goepner and Bob Newman of the Carson City Bonanza Club were invaluable assets to our Show Committee. They set up all the electrical capabilities in the park. they assisted MB-F to set up the rings and the equipment (It was MB-F's first time at the park, too.). Sig and Bob set up all of our vendors for Helen. Tom Wise and Jim Georges were there on Thursday to assist with set up; Chum Daly was there on Friday, and throughout the weekend.

Chum, not yet a member of our club, was the hero of the weekend. He did everything and was everywhere help was needed. We couldn't have done without him. There were many members of the Bonanza Club there to help with our show. Gail Spieker judged Junior Showmanship for us, she ring stewarded both days, and ring stewarded both days for Group and Best in Show.

What a trooper! Carolyn Goepner of the Bonanza Club provided delicious breakfast and lunch for the Judges, Ring Stewards, and all Show Committee members on both Saturday and Sunday. It was so nice to have show personnel stay on the grounds for meals.

Dottie Newell and her assistant Bill Sanchez did an outstanding job with hospitality. They transported judges to and from the show site both days, they kept the judges and ring stewards stocked with much needed and appreciated cold drinks throughout the day. Dottie gave the Judges collectable coins as a thank you, and they were very popular because they are so easy to pack to take home. This year we warned the judges that they were collectable coins so that they would not put them in slot machines. (That happened last year.)

Agnes Benis gathered a very capable crew of Ring Stewards together for the weekend. Stewards called from the Bonanza club and from our club. We even pressed a visiting judge from IL into stewarding service. She worked for us all day Saturday!

Thanks to the Doberman club for providing Pooper Scoopers for us. The boys did an outstanding job, and have agreed to come back next year.

Millie Hansen, Janet Volock, Tom Wise, and several Collie club members provided the manpower for Catalog sales.

Bill Burke did a monumental job keeping the Obedience ring running smoothly.

Thanks to Sue Hanna for helping Bill with Ring Stewarding in the Obedience Ring.

Bill Sanchez was there, too, when he wasn't keeping the Judges supplied with refreshments.

Thanks to Steve Gladstone, our AKC Delegate, for judging Best in Show Bred By. He also did some ring stewarding for us. It's always so nice to have Steve visit. We appreciated the time he took to talk to the members who wanted to visit with him. His cocktail party on Friday night gave us an opportunity to visit and relax before the "big" weekend started. We had a great time! The food, especially the shrimp was fantastic.

Florence Males, the AKC Rep, was there and she was very helpful to the show committee. She presented us with a few ideas to make the show better next year.

The personnel from MB-F, Ed Hadley, Ralph Price, and Dennis Johnson provided us with support and organization. They, as always, were always there when a problem came up, and provided solutions.

Ann and Bob Kinney from the Bonanza Club provided EMT services. We were grateful that they were there, but we were also very happy they were not needed for anything serious. Ann's mother was also there as a backup if needed.

The show Veterinarian, Dr. Leslie Hewitt from the Sierra Veterinary Hospital in Carson City was on-site for emergencies. Thankfully she only had superficial things to deal with.

Thanks to the Carson City Parks Department for welcoming us to the community and for allowing us to use Fuji Park.

We enjoyed the good food prepared by the Carson City Kiwanis Club. The prices were reasonable, and the food was delicious. Thanks to them for being there for the Show.

We have had many compliments on the show from participants and from people visiting the show. The chairman has also received phone messages and e-mails from people telling us how nice the show was and how much they enjoyed being there.

Some people have been overlooked in this thank you, but if you're out there please know that your efforts are so much appreciated. Look for more thank you’s in the next newsletter.

Finally, and certainly not least, are the thanks that must go to all members of the Bonanza Club. The contributions the club made were HUGE. We appreciated the ring canopies and other equipment they made available for us to borrow. They brought their club equipment trailer to the show site making it unnecessary for us to have to haul our trailer. The trailer was open for us to use anything we needed during the weekend. There are things we can do better for next year's show, and we will work on them. If anyone has suggestions for us, please call Tom and Elizabeth at (775) 356-6519, or email at Elizabeth@gbis.com. Or, you can come to the meeting and make your suggestions to the Show Committee. All suggestions are welcome.

We made money this year, but Helen has not had time to roll everything out yet. She should have the "bottom line" available at the meeting next Tuesday. Please join us for that meeting, we can discuss the weekend over refreshments!

Upcoming Club Activities

We will soon start work on the "Get to Know Us and Our Breed" event. Jim Georges will have information for us at the next meeting.  We will each have a space, so start now to think about a theme for your "booth" that will be eye-catching for an observer. It would be a good idea to start putting some materials together about your breed, so that when Jim gives us the date, we will be ready to go.

The puppy match at Evans Park is coming up on Saturday, September 20th. Bill Burke is the Chairman of this activity and he will be calling to get helpers for this very fun day.
